Fabio Capello is unsure that José Mourinho will remain in charge of Roma next season but believes Antonio Cassano should have thought twice before criticising the Giallorossi coach.

The former Italian tactician spoke about Mourinho’s Roma in an interview with Il Messaggero newspaper on Tuesday.

The Special One is under contract at the Stadio Olimpico until June 2024, but his future remains uncertain as he wants guarantees that club owners will invest in new signings to make the Giallorossi credible title contenders next season.

“I don’t know if Mourinho will stay, I wouldn’t want him to think that Serie A is inferior to Premier League or La Liga,” claimed Capello.

“He has coached the best clubs in the world and he is still young, so he can take satisfaction at a very high level.”

The Portuguese tactician has recently been involved in a war of words with former Roma striker Antonio Cassano, who had criticised his playing style.

“I don’t want to be involved in controversies, I want to remain out. I read, listen and have fun,” said Capello.

“I know Antonio well, I coached him, but I also know José and before talking badly about him, I would think twice. He [Cassano] must rely on some advisors, someone to help him in research. Mourinho mentioned [Marko] Livaja who, honestly, I didn’t even remember.”

The Special One hit back at Cassano last weekend, saying that people only remember him in Madrid because of the jacket he wore during his unveiling press conference and suggested that the Croatian striker had beaten him during a fight at Inter.

Cassano hit back at Mourinho again on Monday: “With Livaja, we said words to each other, about everything, me to him and him to me, after two days we were friends as before. My mother taught me, dear Mourinho, not to be afraid of anything or anyone,” said the ex-Azzurri star.
