Vincent Candela thinks former club Roma would be making a mistake in selling Erik Lamela after already waving goodbye to Pablo Daniel Osvaldo.

The Giallorossi accepted a €15.1m bid from Southampton for the Argentine-born Italian international at the start of this week.

Meanwhile, they are in talks with Spurs who look set to sign the 21-year-old Lamela – possibly for as much as €35m.

“The set-up of the side has remained the same, but the players have changed,” the former French international told Qlub Radio.

“I really like the arrival of Morgan De Sanctis in goal, but I am disappointed that Osvaldo has gone and I fear Lamela will follow.

“It is an error to deprive a team of two players like Osvaldo and Lamela. I hope that the money received will be invested in the right way on the transfer market.

“Sure Francesco Totti is still there, but he is not enough on his own. Roma need a striker who can guarantee 20 goals a season.”
