Vincent Candela says Roma need to get “someone better” than Miralem Pjanic after he joined Juventus.

“It’s part of football, I don’t know what happened,” Candela shrugged at the Press conference to introduce the second edition of Voi Siete Leggenda.

“I said that one would have to be sold. He has been criticised despite his goals and assists, the important thing is that someone even better arrives now.
“There can be sales, you can think about the face [Paul] Pogba could be sold, or the sale of [Zinedine] Zidane in the past, you have to replace them in the best way.
“He’s not the best player in the world, I understand that this is the start of the transfer window but I hope for some better arrivals.
“[Radja] Nainggolan and [Alessandro] Florenzi are two certainties, they have the Euros now and I think they’re two good players who can become champions.
“We have to start with them. I’ve said it before: I’d rather hold on to Nainggolan than Pjanic. I’ve been saying that since last year.”
Candela won the Scudetto with the Giallorossi in 2000, does he think the current vintage can emulate that success?
“It depends on the signings, there are missing pieces and we also have to figure out who the striker will be.
“It’ll take reinforcements at the front and the back, we also need to get the best out of [Stephan] El Shaarawy, but I think next year we can fight to the end.
“[Luciano] Spalletti is a guarantee, I hope they follow the Coach and he makes a good team with the directors.
“Edin Dzeko? This year was no good, and he knows it, if we give him another year it’s risky. It’s true that we have [Francesco] Totti, but he can’t always fix everything. We need a striker.
“I can’t tell you if Roma can win it now. Totti is on holiday, I saw him on the day he signed [his contract extension] and he was very glad.”
