Cesena Coach Andrea Camplone felt his minnows knocked Sassuolo out of the Coppa Italia because “in a one-off game anything can happen.”

The Sea Horses also eliminated Empoli in the last round and caused another upset when coming back from a goal down to conquer the Mapei Stadium 2-1.

“It’s an important result for us,” Camplone told Rai Sport. “We’ve done badly on our travels in the league, but very well in the Coppa. The victory should give us more confidence going forward and I hope it can be a turning point.

“Perhaps it’s because in a one-off game anything can happen and we go out there with clear minds, not feeling the pressure of the three points.

“We were tense in the first half today, but much better after the break. This is a very good squad, but lacks self-confidence.”

Cesena will go on to face Roma or Sampdoria in the quarter-finals, the first time they’ve reached this stage of the Coppa Italia since 1970-71.
