“It’s a waste of time drawing up tables and predicting results,” he told Sky Sport Italia. “We are in no condition to speculate about what will happen.

“The problem with chasing third is not the amount of points that separate us from there, but the amount of teams in between us.

“Our fans don’t want promises, they want facts. All we can do is to win as many games as possible and then see where we are at the end of the season.”

Lazio, Udinese, Roma, Napoli and Inter are all in the scrap to finish third this term.

The Nerazzurri are next in action at Fiorentina and they’ll be boosted by the return of attacking midfielder Wesley Sneijder.

“It’s important that he is back, but don’t forget that Douglas Maicon will also return and he’d not a bad player,” smiled the Argentine.

“It means the Coach will have more choices and the squad will have greater potential.”

The Beneamata will also have to face Udinese, Cesena, Parma, Milan and Lazio in the last few rounds of the campaign.
