José Maria Callejon will return to Naples as an opponent today after spending seven seasons with the Azzurri.

The former Real Madrid winger joined Napoli from Real Madrid in 2013 and left the club last summer.

His contract with Napoli was due to expire in June 2020, but he was so attached to the club he accepted to play for free until the end of the season in July.

He played 349 games with the Partenopei, scoring 82 goals.

Callejon won three trophies in Naples: two Coppa Italia and one Supercoppa Italiana.

The 33-year-old joined Fiorentina as a free agent on the deadline day in October 2020.

Today he returns to Naples as an opponent for the first time, but it is still unsure whether he will feature in Cesare Prandelli’s IX or start on the bench.

“I had seven marvellous years at Napoli, the truth is that it is my home and the people there are fantastic, while I love my teammates very much too,” Callejon said earlier this week.

Napoli-Fiorentina kicks off at 11.30 am GMT.

Fabian Ruiz tested positive for COVID on Saturday, but the swab tests carried out by the rest of the team came back negative, which means the game will go ahead as planned.
