Inter star Hakan Calhanoglu says the Nerazzurri ‘have fire inside’ ahead of Saturday’s derby della Madonnina and admits Romelu Lukaku ‘feels bad, but ‘ we feel his strength off the pitch.’

The Nerazzurri beat Cremonese at San Siro last night overtaking their city rivals Milan in the Serie A table ahead of next weekend’s derby.

“We know Milan have become strong, it’s going to be a difficult game, but we are as motivated as last season, we have fire inside, let’s see what happens,” he told DAZN.

“We reacted well after the defeat against Lazio and we deserved to win [against Cremonese].”

Romelu Lukaku missed the game and is expected to remain out of action for several weeks due to a flexor injury.

“We played without him last season, but we know he can help us on the pitch,” said Calhanoglu. “He feels bad, but we can feel his strength also off the pitch.”

Lukaku returned to Inter on loan from Chelsea this summer after a disappointing spell at Chelsea under Thomas Tuchel.

Calhanoglu joined Inter from Milan as a free agent a year ago and contributed to seven goals and 13 assists in 34 Serie A appearances with the Nerazzurri last season. He won the Coppa Italia and the Italian Supercup in his first season at the club, while Milan became Serie A champions.

He had scored 32 goals in 172 games with Milan during his four-year spell in the red and black side of Milan. His Inter contract runs out in June 2024.
