Bild reporter Christian Falk maintains Hakan Calhanoglu is ’90 per cent’ likely to join Manchester United as a free agent from Milan.

The midfielder will be out of contract in June and negotiations for a new deal with the Rossoneri have hit a brick wall due to his demands, which are considered excessive.

“According to our information, the first talks between Manchester and the entourage of Calhanoglu about a transfer in 2021 already took place this summer,” Falk told SempreMilan.com.

“At that time, things were already very advanced. This is supported by the fact that the management rejected an offer from Juventus for an immediate transfer in 2020 shortly before the end of the transfer deadline.

“At the moment it’s about the exact salary for the transfer. Calhanoglu has the big advantage that he is a free agent.”

When asked what the odds were of Calhanoglu running out for Manchester United next term, Falk said “90 per cent.”

Calhanoglu has also been linked with Juventus, but again his salary requests seem improbable at €7m per season.

The Turkey international, who was born and raised in Germany, currently earns €2.5m per year at Milan.

He had often been criticised by Rossoneri supporters over the years, but since the change of tactics to 4-2-3-1 and his role behind the strikers, Calhanoglu has flourished.
