The initial idea had been to start with Serie A games, playing every three days to get that competition concluded as quickly as possible.

However, La Repubblica newspaper claims that another option was discussed and that is gaining a positive response from all parties.

If the first games played after the lockdown are the Coppa Italia semi-final second legs, then it’ll get those out of the way and allow more time for the other Serie A teams to prepare a more complex calendar.

The first legs were already played, with Milan and Juventus drawing 1-1 at San Siro, while Napoli earned a 1-0 victory away to Inter.

If the semi-finals are completed, then either the Final could be rushed through on neutral turf in Rome’s Stadio Olimpico or it’d be scheduled for the summer.

Another reason why the Coppa Italia would be favoured is that the TV rights in Italy belong to RAI, who are the free to air State television station.

It means everyone would be able to watch the games, not just those who have Sky Sport Italia or DAZN pay-per-view.
