There is only one point separating the rivals going into San Siro, but Roma are hovering right behind them in the battle for a Champions League spot.

“It would be really important for us and our objective to win,” the Rossoneri full-back told Sportmediaset.

“Inter have a stronger overall squad, as they built to play in the Champions League this season, while we see our qualification as a starting point.

“If we were to go four points clear, it’d be fundamental for our own ambitions and prove the final blow to Inter.”

Milan have won their last five Serie A matches on the bounce, whereas Inter slipped down the standings and crashed out of the Europa League to Eintracht Frankfurt on Thursday.

“We are going through a positive period of form, we’re fired up and confident. We started the season slowly and made a lot of mistakes, but have improved some of those weaknesses.

“Now it’s the opportunity to send a strong signal and the derby can be a big turning point for us.”
