Felipe Caicedo feels Inter coach Simone Inzaghi has ‘given him a lot’ throughout his career, helping him to ‘become the player I am today’.

The 33-year-old Ecuadorian forward only made his Nerazzurri debut recently, playing three minutes in the 0-0 draw with Genoa last week. He arrived with muscle fatigue, forcing him to build fitness before being available to Inzaghi.

Speaking on InterTV, Caicedo first discussed a famous photo of him hugging Inzaghi following a late Lazio goal against Juventus.

“I see this picture often, it’s very beautiful, I get goosebumps every time I look at it. I remember this game like it was yesterday, we were losing to Juventus and in the 93rd minute I scored a goal, it was a very special match.

“Inzaghi is a coach who has given me so much, he helped me grow and become the player I am today, I am very grateful to him. He looks for the best from all the players.”

He then discussed the famous ‘Caicedo zone’, the handful of minutes before the end of a match where he often finds the back of the net.

“The ‘Caicedo zone’ comes from the goals always scored towards the end of the match, from an important physical condition.

“I always try to be focused until the end, I think that’s one of the virtues I have, to never give up when I play and to always look for the goal, to help the team when it needs it.”

Caicedo made 139 Lazio appearances under Inzaghi during their time together in Rome, for a total of 6421 minutes. In that time, he scored 33 goals and provided 15 assists, helping the side win the Coppa Italia and two Supercoppa Italiana titles.

The Ecuadorian forward spent the first six months of this season with Genoa, where he netted one goal and provided three assists in 10 appearances.
