Rolando Maran’s Cagliari have had their best start to a season since Manlio Scopigno won the Scudetto with the Sardinians in 1970.

Only Scopigno – who gave the Rossoblu their finest moment in 1969-70 – has bettered the statistics of the former Chievo coach so far this season.

After 11 matches, Maran and Cagliari have collected 21 points and are tied on fourth in the League, accompanied by Lazio and Atalanta.

After 11 matches, Maran and Cagliari have collected 21 points and are tied on fourth in the League, accompanied by Lazio and Atalanta.

Recalculating the historical tables and applying the three point-system of today, Cagliari have only bettered those statistics three times, according to the Corriere dello Sport.

In 1966-67 they started off with 22 points, the year they won their only title in 1969-70 they collected 25 points in the same period.

At the top of the list we find the 1968-69 season, when they were on 26 points after 11 games and ended up second to Fiorentina.

Cagliari will continue against La Viola on Sunday, when they are looking to continue their fine form under Maran’s leadership at the Sardegna Arena.
