They have only one victory in Serie A all season and are coming off back-to-back 4-0 defeats, but the club backed coach Walter Mazzarri and warned there would be radical changes to the squad in January.

That process has already begun, with Uruguay internationals Godin and Caceres effectively frozen out and told to find another team.

“I can only say that this is a complicated situation because we’re in the final game of the first half of the season and picked up only 10 points,” Cagliari director of sport Passetti told DAZN.

“The worry is for Cagliari and not for individuals. If we are in this situation, then we are all responsible. There are no scapegoats, that is not in our style.

“The responsibility is to be shared between the club, coaches and players who take to the field.”

Cagliari have managed just one Serie A victory, seven draws and 10 defeats so far this season, in which they scored 17 goals and conceded 38.

They have secured their place in the Coppa Italia Round of 16, where they will face Sassuolo on January 19.
