Martin Caceres appears certain to join Lazio from Verona once Serie A’s winter break arrives.

The Uruguayan defender scored for the Scaligeri in last night’s 3-1 defeat to Juventus but his days at the Stadio Bentegodi are numbered.

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio, Verona’s match with Napoli next Saturday will be the final time Fabio Pecchia will be able to call upon the 30-year-old’s services – with Caceres completing a move to the Stadio Olimpico immediately afterwards.

It is believed that the deal was agreed between the clubs as early as last summer, with Lazio Coach Simone Inzaghi adding in recent days that the former Juventus man ‘could help’ his side.

Official confirmation of the transfer seems a formality, with Caceres set to have a €5m release clause inserted into his Biancocelesti contract.
