Poland Coach Jerzy Brzeczek is keeping his cards close to his chest ahead of the Nations League showdown with Italy. “We’re both rebuilding confidence.”

It kicks off on Sunday at 19.45 UK time (18.45 GMT), with both sides on one point and Portugal clear on six.

That makes this a showdown to avoid relegation into Nations League B, with consequently a worse draw for Euro 2020 qualifying.

“The important thing will be our approach, regardless of the system or individual players we choose. The game is on our home turf and will be tough, but the priority is to win,” said the Coach in his Press conference.

It ended 1-1 when these teams met at the Stadio Dall’Ara in Bologna on September 7, but both have since lost to Portugal.

“The tactics depend on how certain players are feeling tomorrow, while Klich is suspended. I won’t confirm we’re using 4-4-1-1. We’ll step on to the field to win, that I can say.

“We have various ideas and options going forward, such as Arkadiusz Milik, while Piotr Zielinski can play in a variety of midfield or attacking roles.

“We will use all our greatest strengths based on current form.”

Genoa forward Krzysztof Piatek scored his debut Poland goal against Portugal in only his second cap, confirming remarkable form in Serie A this season.

“Piatek scored a goal, but can improve his understanding with Robert Lewandowski. Milik is in good shape too, and there will be games where we can play all three upfront, but right now we need to be rational.

“Poland have some excellent players spread out all over Europe, but often that’s not enough to make a team. There was a lot of disappointment after the World Cup, so we have to rebuild our confidence and get back on track.”

Italy are also trying to find themselves under new Coach Roberto Mancini, using Lorenzo Insigne, Federico Bernardeschi and Federico Chiesa in an unusual trident attack.

“We saw that they are missing a traditional centre-forward, but have a lot of quality in the side. Italy are in a similar position to us, trying to reconstruct, and with Roberto Mancini they’ll get back to a high level.”
