Marcelo Brozovic celebrates his first ever Champions League goal and Inter’s 3-1 win away to Sheriff. ‘Now we control our destiny.’

It was a comfortable performance for the Nerazzurri in Moldova, as Marcelo Brozovic, Milan Skriniar and Alexis Sanchez completed the rout.

Only an Adama Traore header in stoppages allowed Sheriff to seal the 3-1 result, the same scoreline by which they lost at San Siro last month.

Champions League | Sheriff 1-3 Inter: Dominant in Moldova

The victory means Inter leapfrog Sheriff into second place in the Champions League group on seven points, with Carlo Ancelotti’s Real Madrid leading on nine.

They also have a superior head-to-head record with Sheriff, who have six points.

“Now we control our own destiny. The only thing that mattered today was winning, we played really well, attacked and did not allow any counter-attacks,” Brozovic told Sky Sport Italia.

It was still goalless at the break, despite numerous chances and Lautaro Martinez rattling the woodwork.

“The coach said a few things, we needed to move the ball quicker and then we’d 100 per cent score a goal.”

Brozovic was named UEFA Man of the Match after his first ever Champions League goal at the 27th appearance.

Inter now prepare for Sunday’s Serie A clash with rivals Milan in the Derby della Madonnina.

“The only thing that matters is winning. We want to all give 100 per cent for the victory.”
