Milan Coach Cristian Brocchi says Silvio Berlusconi has ‘never told me to play a certain way’ and believes ‘my future doesn’t depend on the Coppa Italia.’

The under-fire Rossoneri boss was interviewed by Gazzetta dello Sport today and responded to criticisms of being a ‘lap dog’ to the Diavolo President.

“I heard from Berlusconi tonight. He asked me how it was going and told me he’ll come to find us before the final,” Brocchi said.

“I’ve been called a lap dog, incompetent and other insults. But the President has never told me to play this way or that way.

“I don’t think my future depends on the Coppa Italia final. Even if I was to win, after the initial euphoria I would hear the usual things: ‘He’s not at the top level, etc’.

“I’m not thinking about after the final. In any case from this experience the awareness of being a Coach will stay with me.

“I’m convinced that the work I propose, if done in the right time, can bring results. And after my first 35 days as Milan Coach I feel like I have an even stronger character.

“If I felt someone was playing against me I would intervene. I think the players must be evaluated on four components: tactical, technical, physical and mental. And the performance is high if the four components are more or less balanced.”
