The Biancocelesti beat Juventus 3-1 in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on Sunday, and the Italy defender didn’t have any excuses after the cup Final.

“We must give Lazio credit for having played a great match,” Bonucci told JTV.

“We knew they were in prime condition, both physically and psychologically.

“In the start, we had to pay for our lack of aggression. But during the first half, we managed to bring back the balance in the game.

“In the second half, we conceded an accidental goal at the far post, where we knew they would try to put us in trouble with their five midfielders and attacking with the strikers. That’s how the game went.”

Now, the 32-year-old says the Old Lady are using the festive period to “recover” from a first half of the season that has seen them also knocked off their perch at the top of Serie A by Inter.

“It’s too bad, it was a trophy we cared about. We faced a team who proved to be superior with regards to previous years.

“The winners deserve credit. We will try to recover physically during the break. In 2020, there are a lot of important games waiting for us.”
