“The 2016 Coppa Italia final against Juventus. It was a good match, lost in the last minutes of overtime.”

Now a new chapter of his career has begun.

“At the end of the season I had several offers, but I took some [before choosing one] as I was on International duty with Italy. When I was called by Fiorentina I immediately said yes. I think it is a club with good prospects. The team, led by a very experienced coach, will grow over the years thanks to a mix of experienced and young players.

“I am pleased to see President Rocco Commisso following the team with great passion and participation. Having the president so close is a great incentive to do well."

La Viola aim to qualify for Europe and Franck Ribery could be the key to reach the target.

“We have the cards in order to try to make a great season. We aim to play in Europe as soon as possible,” the former Milan star said.

“Ribery is not a surprise. He makes the difference, he was born to play football. I had met him a few times in the past, but I didn’t know him. Now that we are teammates I noticed with pleasure that he is very helpful with everyone in the dressing room and is also nice.

“The quality that unites [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic and Ribery is the great commitment and concentration that they put into every training. I don’t know if a team with them would win the Scudetto, but I’m sure any coach would want to coach them.

"They are two players who have made so many people understand that even after 35 years if you have class and quality you can still make a difference.”

Fiorentina sold Federico Chiesa to Juventus in the deadline day acquiring José Maria Callejon to replace the Italy winger.

“Fiorentina have acquired a player who is ready in Callejon. He can be important because he has experience and quality.”

La Viola take on Spezia on Sunday.

“They are an organized team. Every Serie A game is complicated, we are preparing well to start again immediately with a win.”

Bonaventura has been struggling with injuries of late but Roberto Mancini has also given him a call-up with Italy National team. The 31-year-old missed the last game against the Netherlands for the birth of his son.

“On a personal level I am happy to be back with the Azzurri. I feel the confidence of the CT and I think I have the experience to be an important player for the national team. What is impressive about Mancini is the great confidence he has with the players. He brought quality back to the center of the game.”

“The birth of my son was a great emotion. My wife and I are very happy and ready for the great responsibility of being parents. We will do our best to raise a serene and happy child.”
