English second-tier side Bolton Wanderers have reportedly beaten Juventus to the signing of Lazio goalkeeper Federico Marchetti.

TuttoJuve claims Marchetti had been lined up as a possible deputy to Wojciech Szczesny next season, but it cites a report on Calciomercato.it, which suggests the outcast is close to joining Bolton.

However, it is unclear at this stage whether the 34-year-old would move now or in the summer, when his Lazio contract expires.

Marchetti represented Italy at the 2010 World Cup following an injury to Gianluigi Buffon, but his relationship with the Aquile has broken down and he has not made any first-team appearances this season.

Bolton, meanwhile, are 20th in the EFL Championship and just one point above the relegation zone.
