Alexander Blessin acknowledges Genoa were perhaps ‘lucky’ to get the 0-0 draw against Inter, but admired the mentality to extend their unbeaten run to five rounds.

The German coach is unbeaten on the Grifone bench, but he has now drawn all five of his Serie A matches at the helm.

“As I said before, I believe in my team and we did a really great job for the first 30 minutes, I thought at this moment we could score a goal,” Blessin told Sky Sport Italia.

“After half-time we made changes, there were injuries and the last 20 minutes were just about defending our own goal.

“It was a lucky draw, we showed a strong mentality, but I was really impressed with my team.”

It’s not the kind of record that can really help them break away from penultimate place, as this club has only one victory all season, 3-2 against Cagliari back in September 2021.

“After every game, I say it’s possible. We’ll see how many points we can reach in the next weeks, this is my mission, the reason I am here and we’ll keep going as long as it is possible.”

Genoa have certainly improved since Blessin took over as their third coach of the campaign, after Davide Ballardini and Andriy Shevchenko.

“I don’t want to talk about the past, I am here now, I impose my style and for sure we will make a lot of mistakes. We have really lost stupid balls in recent games and we have to avoid doing that, we need to control the ball and I was not happy about the many, many times we gave it away in the second half.

“When you have chances against these top teams, you need to take them.”
