Inter have again failed to make the most of Milan dropping points, as Genoa played a fifth consecutive stalemate and were rescued by the woodwork.

Serie A Highlights: Genoa 0-0 Inter

The Nerazzurri were coming off a shock home defeat to Sassuolo, but had Marcelo Brozovic and Alessandro Bastoni back from suspension. Alexis Sanchez and Danilo D’Ambrosio sent Lautaro Martinez and Milan Skriniar to the bench, with Joaquin Correa and Robin Gosens injured. Genoa had drawn all four games under Alexander Blessin and had one Serie A victory all season, in September, with Domenico Criscito, Roberto Piccoli, Mattia Bani and Zinho Vanheusden out of action.

There were early chances for both sides, Hakan Calhanoglu and Albert Gudmundsson prodding wide one-one-one with the goalkeepers.

Salvatore Sirigu fingertipped a looping Edin Dzeko header over and Melegoni slipped as he got his shot away, forcing Samir Handanovic to readjust mid-air for a desperate one-handed save.

Denzel Dumfries fired over from a tricky angle and Dzeko just failed to get on the end of an Ivan Perisic cross.

Nikola Maksimovic went off with an apparent groin strain, but his replacement Andrea Cambiaso only lasted eight minutes before Calhanoglu accidentally crashed into his left leg while slipping, forcing the substitute to be stretchered off.

Inter came so close on 62 minutes, as Danilo D’Ambrosio’s header from a Calhanoglu corner thumped the crossbar.

Calhanoglu flashed a free kick wide from distance and Stefano Sturaro failed to make the most of a shinned Perisic clearance.

Lautaro Martinez tested Sirigu and Nicolò Barella blasted over with a deflection off Milan Badelj, while a Lautaro Martinez header skimmed the crossbar.

Leo Ostigard got back for a decisive block on Lautaro Martinez too and Dzeko’s glancing header was straight at Sirigu in stoppages.

  1. To Andy: its terrible weak teams they are gonne from europe, shame for italy to have such delegates

  2. If only Juve had a coach with balls, we’d be back in the scudetto race as Inter is slowly coming undone, Milan don’t take their chances and Napoli is, well, Napoli. 1-1 draws are not doing Juve any good, and that’s on Allegri.
