Lazio captain Lucas Biglia says the 4-1 defeat to Roma last season “is still on our minds” as they look for revenge on Sunday.

The Biancocelesti haven’t won the Derby della Capitale since the 2013 Coppa Italia final, and were thrashed in the most recent encounter, prompting the sacking of Coach Stefano Pioli.

“It’s definitely a different game to the others,” Biglia acknowledged in a Press conference ahead of the weekend’s meeting of the capital clubs.

“We want to win, sometimes we’ve deserved more. The last game is still on our minds, it was a painful defeat. We all have the desire to make up for it.

“It’s a special game, we’re playing with our city rivals. We’ll play with the desire and the organisation that the Coach [Simone Inzaghi] asks from us every week.

“He knows this fixture, so he brings us something extra. I’ve learned that these games aren’t over until after the final minute of injury time.

“Often we’ve deserved to win, but against strong teams you must always be attentive, right up to the final whistle.

“We want to win, the psychological aspect counts as much as the style of play. So far we’ve achieved good results and we want to do well on Sunday.

“I have faith in the Coach and my teammates. We can do well.”

Wojciech Szczesny says Roma are the stronger side…

“I won’t say who was stronger, the pitch will tell us. I have faith in my teammates. They’re a point ahead of us, and in Italy anything can happen, we saw that with Juventus on Sunday.

“What counts is the mentality of the group. This is a great Lazio, we’re doing a good job and getting results. Two years ago we finished third, and we want to improve.

“The Coach has brought a lot of enthusiasm, and we’re on the right track.”

The Argentine was then asked how this derby compares to others around the world.

“At international level this could be compared to Argentina-Brazil and Argentina-Uruguay,” Biglia explained.

“At club level though it has no equal, it’s the biggest I’ve played in so far. I think this is one of the biggest derbies in the world.”

Refereeing is often a subject discussed when it comes to the Derby della Capitale…

“I won’t speak about the referee. I don’t hope for anything, I know that it’ll be a tough match for him. I won’t look at who the referee will be, or what happened in previous derbies.

“I only hope for myself, my teammates and the staff. I don’t care about the referee.”
