Inter midfielder Jonathan Biabiany admits he considered quitting football as he battled a heart condition.

The winger was diagnosed with a cardiac arrhythmia, which scuppered a move from Parma to Milan, but returned to competitive football for the Nerazzurri this term, with substitute appearances against Verona and Fiorentina.

“Retirement? Of course, when waiting to come back I had that thought,” Biabiany confessed in a Press conference ahead of the Sampdoria game.

“I’m here now though, and I’m happy. If I had stopped, life would have gone on regardless.

“I was very happy to return after a year out [against Verona], at the time I wasn’t thinking about anything else, I was focused on doing what was asked of me.

“Eventually the emotion came, to be back playing with the team I made my debut for. I wanted to get back on the pitch as soon as possible, and that’s happened.

“The team goal is to finish as high as possible.”

Biabiany became a free agent during last season as Parma went to the wall, and the Frenchman feels sorry for his former club.

“I feel bad for Parma, I will always carry them in my heart and it ended in the worst possible way.”

Juventus’ Stephan Lichtsteiner has been sent for cardiac tests after suffering breathing difficulties, does Biabiany have any advice?

“I hope it’s nothing serious,” replied the 27-year-old.

“I send him my best wishes that he can return as soon as possible. Now he needs to rest, and he’ll recover with the help of his family.”
