Silvio Berlusconi has told Milan’s players they must ‘go back to playing a leading role in Italian football’.

The Rossoneri President went to meet the squad at Milanello yesterday before the squad heads to China, and this morning’s Gazzetta dello Sport contains an account of his words.

“You are starting a very important season,” Berlusconi reportedly told the players.

“Milan must go back to playing a leading role in Italian football. I’m sure it will be a great campaign. I have a lot of confidence in our Coach [Sinisa Mihajlovic].

“Mihajlovic has personality and ideas. He will guide you in the right way. Follow him, and we’ll have a lot of satisfaction.

“You need to have greater belief in yourselves. This Milan squad is very competitive, we’ve found players on the transfer market who will be very helpful, and this squad can pursue the excellence we’re aiming for.

“The tour of China is very important for the club. We have over 100 million fans there, and the decision to play in Shanghai and Shenzhen was due to wanting to go to them.

“Make our fans happy by trying to beat Inter and Real Madrid and making yourselves available for them.”
