Former Milan owner Silvio Berlusconi is recovering in hospital after undergoing successful surgery for an intestinal blockage.

Berlusconi was rushed to San Raffaele hospital on Tuesday morning with what appeared to be renal colic.

However, it has since been reported that the 82-year-old had a bowel obstruction.

“The operation was successful and conclusive,” confirmed the hospital in a statement, which added the ex-Italy PM was in good health and would be discharged in the coming days.

The Monza President had hoped to participate at the presentation of Forza Italia candidates for European elections yesterday.

“Thank you all for your affection and the many messages I’ve received. I’m fit and ready for this election campaign!” he wrote on Facebook.
