Milan President Silvio Berlusconi backed Cristian Brocchi and said he’d “preferably” sell the club to Italian investors.

The patron was reportedly set to meet the Chinese conglomerate attempting to buy the Rossoneri, but this appears to be untrue.

“I, like all of you, have Milan in my heart and I suffer when things don’t go well,” Berlusconi declared on a Facebook video.

“In fact, I suffer perhaps more, seeing as to make the club big I have invested €1bn Euros. In the last year, it was €152m.

“And yet you’ll agree with me that we’ve never seen Milan play as badly as they have this year. For this season I found the courage to change, to reach the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus with a little more hope.

“In fact, it seems to me that we have seen some improvements in the quality of football. We had Cristian Brocchi in-house, a fine Coach of our Primavera youth team.

“I asked him for an act of courage and he said yes. He is a reliable man who knows the Milan style well, right from when he played for our youngest Pulcini youth sector.

“He hasn’t had much time to work on the players and try new systems. We were also unlucky in recent games, such as in Verona, where we lost to a penalty and a free kick that absolutely shouldn’t have been awarded.

“So let’s leave Brocchi in peace to work until May 21, then we’ll decide what is to be done.

“I also wish to say that after 30 years of celebrating with champagne and caviar, we could show more elegance when dealing with a dry spell that is after all only passing.

“Finally, to those who tell me we must sell, I reply: I’ve been trying for a year, but I want to leave Milan in good hands who can guarantee a future as a protagonist. Preferably Italian hands.”
