Giuseppe Bergomi is not happy with the idea of Inter selling Alessandro Bastoni to the interested Tottenham, suggesting that he’s ‘the last player who should be sold’.

Spurs are reportedly keen to sign the 23-year-old Italian centre back but they’d have to pay up, as Inter aren’t willing to accept less than €60m. Bastoni’s departure could allow the Nerazzurri to fund their other transfer market ventures, so it’s impossible to rule out a deal this summer.

Speaking to Sky Sports Italia, Bergomi discussed Bastoni’s links to Tottenham and his thoughts on a deal.

“The last to be sold are the Italians, attached to the shirt, those with a sense of belonging like Barella and Bastoni. Should Alessandro leave, my heart would weep.

“I reason as a fan, the management will know how to behave, they have worked well, they will do it again.”

The Inter legend then discussed Ivan Perisic’s departure as a free agent and subsequent move to Tottenham on a free transfer.

“Perisic will be sorely missed, Gosens is another type of player. He is not Perisic, he is a full-back. The Croatian is an incredible athlete, Inter will definitely lose something.”

The 23-year-old Bastoni, who is contracted to Inter until 2024, made 44 appearances across all competitions this season under Simone Inzaghi, for a total of 3326 minutes. In that time, he scored one goal, provided three assists and proved himself to be one of the strongest defenders in Serie A.

  1. Agree. Letting Perisic go at his age is acceptable. Letting Bastoni go before he hits his prime is awfully shortsighted.

  2. Bastoni is a born and bred Interista. He cannot be sold. You can’t replace that. Sell De Vrij, since he seems to have checked out. We could get a good €30M for him off an English side.

If we must sacrifice another, sacrifice Lautaro. He disappears for significant sections of a season. And there is more attacking talent out there.

And Suning need to go ASAP. They seem intent on destroying us along with their businesses

  3. I agree that bastoni should be as untouchable as the likes o Barella and Skriniar. Take your pick from DiVrij or Lautaro. Both are expendables.
