Sassuolo and the Italy squad are concerned after seeing Domenico Berardi carried off the pitch against Milan in floods of tears.

It was a dramatic match for the player at the Mapei Stadium, as he saw his first half penalty saved by Mike Maignan.

He then ran clear on goal only to be brought down by a Theo Hernandez shoulder-charge, but there was no card because the offside flag was up.

During that move, Berardi injured himself, but was making the gestures towards the staff on the bench that it was a thigh strain.

He was carried to the bench, where he sat in tears sobbing into his jersey before being hauled off to the locker room for further treatment.

The 28-year-old has spent his entire career with Sassuolo and recently signed a new contract to June 2027, also taking the Number 10 jersey.

Berardi has 24 senior caps for Italy, in which he scored six goals, being part of the squad that won EURO 2020.
