Antonio Conte and Tottenham Hotspur probably won’t have Rodrigo Bentancur for the Champions League Round of 16 against Milan, as the former Juventus midfielder limped off in agony.

The first leg of that showdown is at San Siro on Tuesday evening.

Bentancur has become a key player for Conte since his move to Spurs in January 2022 for €19m plus up to another €6m in add-ons.

The ex-Juventus man was even on the scoresheet in today’s 4-1 Premier League defeat to Leicester City, but limped off in agony after being on the end of a rough Pape Sarr tackle.

Bentancur was clutching his left knee and it seems unlikely that he will be passed fit to face Milan next week.

It is another blow for Spurs in this Champions League meeting, after losing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris, Yves Bissouma and Ryan Sessegnon to injury, while Pierre-Emil Hojbjerg is suspended for the first leg.

Conte will have to reshuffle to set out his midfield against Milan, which could end up being 22-year-old Oliver Skipp and 20-year-old Sarr.
