Napoli Coach Rafa Benitez believes his side can finish second, but refuses to pledge his future to the club.

The former Liverpool manager is out of contract at the end of the season, and has yet to declare whether he will remain on the San Paolo bench beyond this campaign.

“I’ll speak about my future before the end of the season,” Benitez assured in an interview with Canal Plus.

“For now I want to stay focused on the present, and the games we have coming up. I have a good relationship with the players and the club, there’s still time to discuss this issue.

“When I leave Napoli, whether that’s in a year or five years, I want to the team to be more mature, especially at European level, with a squad to face every challenge.”

That perceived lack of squad depth means that Benitez doesn’t think his side can win the League this season, but he does think second place is a possibility.

Juventus? They have a bigger and stronger squad than the rest of the League, that pays off in the long-run.

“We’ve shown we can beat them in a single match, such as [the Supercoppa] in Doha.

“As for second place, if we maintain our current push we have an excellent chance of achieving that.

“Much will depend on Roma, if there are further missteps from them, we’ll be there, ready to take advantage.”
