Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia is convinced his side will face a different Roma to the one of two weeks ago.

On that occasion the German champions defeated the Giallorossi 7-1 in their own stadium, with the Bavarians 5-0 up at half-time.

However, former Roma centre-back Benatia does not think Bayern will have it so easy this time.

“This will be a very different game compared to the game in Rome,” Benatia warned in an interview on Sport1.

“Roma have great quality, they’re still a very strong team.

“Roma have great quality, they’re still a very strong team.

“I lived in Rome for a year, it’s a great city. There were problems with the leadership of the club, but I won’t talk about that.

“I still have many friends in Rome, and after Roma played Napoli I spoke with almost half of the team, exchanging text messages with a lot of players.”

Benatia also took aim at the German Press, who he feels have been unnecessarily critical of him since his arrival at the Allianz Arena.

“When I arrived at Bayern I had an injury, now I’m ready to do more.

“We have a lot of quality players here such as Boateng, Dante and Rafinha. That’s not a problem for me, when you’re selected you just try to do your best.

“My performances are a message to the German Press – you have to watch me before you can criticise me.”
