Fiorentina and Argentina legend Gabriel Batistuta concedes he underachieved in Serie A, saying he “deserved” to win more than one title.

The prolific hitman, who turned 50 earlier this year, played in Italy from 1991 to 2003 and was once widely considered the world’s best No 9.

He donned the purple of Fiorentina from 1991 to 2000 before making the move to Roma, where he won his one and only Scudetto.

“My whole career had been focused on trying to win with Fiorentina. I didn’t succeed, but I gave everything,” he told Serie A’s official YouTube channel.

“When I realised I had given everything, I decided to change clubs and went to Roma, where I won.

“Personally, I think I deserved it. I made many sacrifices to get there and I deserved to win, to become a champion at least once.”

Batigol scored 20 League goals to help the Giallorossi win the title in 2000-01 – his first season at the Olimpico.
