Alessandro Bastoni noted the importance of Marcelo Brozovic following his goal against Lazio in Inter’s 2-1 win tonight.

The 22-year-old Italian defender scored the opening goal of the match against Maurizio Sarri’s Biancocelesti, finding the back of the net after only 30 minutes. Ciro Immobile responded with an equaliser five minutes later, but the Nerazzurri remained firm and found their winner in the 67th minute, thanks to Milan Skriniar.

Speaking to DAZN after the win over Lazio, Bastoni first explained the circumstances surrounding his goal.

“I wanted to shoot before, and I heard Brozo calling to me ‘alone alone!’. So I was able to adjust to shoot better. A strange sensation, it had been two years since I last scored. Up until the last game, people said I didn’t even get one on corners”

The 22-year-old Inter defender then commented on the importance of the win over the Biancocelesti and his adaption to coach Simone Inzaghi’s 3-5-2 system.

“We’re happy for the victory after the problems of the match against Bologna. We have the Scudetto on our chest and we want to defend it at all costs. Winning is nice and in the last two years we’ve put in a winning mentality.

“We want to stay that way. Sure, at the beginning I had some difficulty understanding Inzaghi’s game, but then we got into the mechanics, we win and we have fun.”

Inter’s win means that they still sit ahead of Milan in the league table, one point above their intercity rivals, although they’ve played one less game following the postponement of their match against Bologna.

The Nerazzurri’s next match is against Juventus in the Supercoppa Italiana on January 12, before they face Atalanta in Bergamo on January 16.
