Inter confirm Alessandro Bastoni has sprained his right ankle and according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italy international could miss the Champions League clash with Liverpool next week.

Bastoni was forced off the pitch in the first half of Inter’s 2-0 win against Roma last night and Inter have confirmed the 22-year-old sustained an ankle injury.

“Alessandro Bastoni was forced off in Inter’s 2-0 win over Roma and this morning underwent tests which have confirmed that he has sprained his right ankle,” the Nerazzurri statement read.

“The player’s fitness will be re-evaluated in the coming days.”

Bastoni received a two-match ban in Serie A, so he’d miss the upcoming fixture against Napoli at the Stadio Maradona anyway.

However, the Nerazzurri have another crucial clash against Liverpool next week and there are doubts on whether Bastoni can be available for the opening Champions League Round of 16 tie at the Stadio Giuseppe Meazza on February 16.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports Bastoni has already begun his recovery, but he will play against Liverpool next week only if he’s 100% fit.

The Nerazzurri will be without the suspended Nicolò Barella in both matches against the Reds. In December, the former Cagliari star was shown a straight red card in the final group stage game against Real Madrid.

  1. Can’t believe how lucky Liverpool are. No Barella. No Bastoni. Who else is next. Let’s see …… Brozovic will get injured the next game? Inzaghi should rest all his remaining key players before the Liverpool game because if he loses anymore key starters, they will get wiped off the pitch by Liverpool, who will press them for 75 minutes so hard they won’t know what hit them. I hate when top Italian teams continue to lose to English teams. And these missing players are going to fit right into that narrative.

  2. I think this weekend’s game is more important the Champions League. This year doesn’t seem our year so would rather get knocked out now. Keep Napoli down and make sure our gap with Milan stays. That should be the first priority. I want Inzaghi with a league winners medal!

  3. Why do people think Liverpool are some kind of unplayable giants who never makes mistakes. There’s no doubt Inter are the best team in Italy and Liverpool will not find facing them completely different from facing previous two italian sides. Inter will be starting the match as underdogs which is rare nowadays and I believe it’ll mean they will have to defend more than before but Liverpool themselves should defend and an injury from their key players will be more costly than for Inter because of their dependance on a few players.

  4. Dimarco and Vidal/Gagliardini will play and have high enthusiasm as this is UCL. No everyone can play in this high level of match.
