Andrea Barzagli admits Juventus “sent a signal to ourselves” by beating Cagliari 4-0 in Serie A on Wednesday.

Juve resoundingly returned to winning ways after their Derby d’Italia defeat to Inter over the weekend, and Barzagli hinted his side were complacent in that match but learned from the error of their ways against Cagliari.

“We entered the pitch fired up and with desire to play, which is what we missed against Inter,” the defender told Sky Sport Italia.

“We also sent a signal to ourselves. If we attack and we go forward, we can have fun.

“If we take everything for granted, nothing will come of it. We’re happy, even if we didn’t achieve anything.

“We know that in Italy, whoever wins has the best defence. We want to continue like this.

“The thought at the end of the first half was to not concede. We have to work again, but it’s a good step forward.”

Barzagli also caught up with former Juve teammates Marco Storari and Simone Padoin after the game.

“We said our goodbyes. We shared some good times and they’re my friends,” he added.

“I’m sorry to them for the defeat, but we’re happy for our victory.”
