And the 31-year-old is now just ‘one step away’ from completing a move to Catalonia from Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich.

Inter have been in advanced negotiations with Vidal and Bayern throughout the last week, with a fee with the club and a three-year contract with the player both agreed.

However, the Nerazzurri’s decision to put the deal on hold while they pursue the signing of Real Madrid’s Luka Modric means they are now set to miss out on their original target.

The San Siro club had hoped to turn their attention back to Vidal once they had learned whether or not an agreement for Modric would be viable.

However, Barca made a late swoop to lure the player to the Camp Nou, with Inter’s hesitation set to cost them the signing of the former Juventus man.
