Barcelona hold a Press conference confirming Juventus target Dani Alves is leaving, but not Javier Mascherano. “It’s a personal decision we respect.”

The full-back has a clause in his contract allowing him to walk away for free a year early if activated by June 5.

“It’s a personal decision that we respect,” declared sporting director Robert Fernandez.

“Last year his contract renewal was done under special circumstances. At that moment it was logical and normal to renew, as he’d had a great season.

“Last year his contract renewal was done under special circumstances. At that moment it was logical and normal to renew, as he’d had a great season.

“He always behaved perfectly, but has now decided to leave. He has communicated to the club his decision to leave.

“Alves was an important player and the club decided to renew his contract last year, with the option that if favourable situations emerged for everyone, he could leave a year early. The club does not always win in negotiations.

“We are not happy that Alves is going, as he behaved fantastically on and off the pitch, but it was his decision and we have to respect it.”

There are reports that Alves signed the two-year contract with Juventus last night in Los Angeles, where Brazil are based for the Copa America.

Juventus have also approached Javier Mascherano, but in this case Barcelona stand firm.

“Mascherano is a vital player and we spoke to him, he wants to continue here. Besides, he is under contract.”
