Federico Balzaretti says Roma’s issues are down to mental problems, not burnout after a long season.

The full-back has not featured for the Giallorossi this season as he battles a pelvic injury which he admits could end his career.

The former Juventus man has seen his teammates fall 11 points behind the Bianconeri in the title race, and believes the problems stem from a lack of confidence.

The former Juventus man has seen his teammates fall 11 points behind the Bianconeri in the title race, and believes the problems stem from a lack of confidence.

“I think it’s a mental issue,” Balzaretti told Sky.

“If it’s physical your legs deteriorate during the game, [but] in this month we’ve done better in the second half than the first.

“When there is less confidence you get less results, those things that you did at 100mph will affect the team when you brake suddenly.”

Balzaretti also gave his assessment of tonight’s Europa League first leg with Fiorentina, and says his teammates will be out to avenge Coppa Italia defeat.

“[Being knocked out in the Coppa] is a small advantage, there’s a desire for revenge. We can learn from that game.”
