The 23-year-old has found himself at the centre of media attention following Italy’s World Cup elimination, after his half-time substitution in the final game against Uruguay reportedly came after an argument with Cesare Prandelli and allegedly also some notable teammates.

Whilst he has responded with an emotional note on social media, the Milan man has been urged to prove himself on the pitch by one former international.

“When they are eliminated like this, it is a total failure, it is not just the fault of Prandelli,” Cuccureddu has told Tuttomercatoweb.com today.

“The decisions made were shared by all, before leaving. I remember the comments: ‘the right choices, well aimed’.

“Who is to blame? It is the fault of everyone. We know the character of Balotelli, we rely on him. But he must demonstrate himself with facts on the pitch, not with his words.

“To me, he did not do this, nor did many others. There is little to take from this, beyond Buffon and Verratti…

“The future? We need to focus on youngsters – there are too many foreigners.

“If someone like Pirlo will stay on, so be it, but it would be great to see other players also used correctly.

“Who should be the next Coach? Cannavaro has never trained, for Mancini and Spalletti I believe there are two exorbitant contracts…”
