Davide Ballardini admits Genoa defended too deep in the first half, but they were also held back by injuries against Juventus.

“In the first half we were pegged back into our own side of the pitch and Juve did well to stay united,” said the Coach of their 2-0 home defeat.

“They never let us get out of that situation and we were too slow. After the break the team had more confidence and we had our midfielders in the right place, so we were able to play.

“Unfortunately today our choices were very limited. Rudolf only resumed training yesterday, while Houssine Kharja wasn't in great shape either.

“We need to get all our players back from the treatment room. With them we have elements of real quality who can trouble the top clubs.”

This was the first defeat of Ballardini's reign at Genoa and until now his side had not conceded in his two games in charge.
