Javier Zanetti and Samuel Eto'o have assured fans that “Inter will emerge with our heads held high.”

The Nerazzurri are without a Serie A win in four rounds – the first time they've had such a poor streak since 2004.

The 2-1 at Chievo represented their second consecutive defeat after the Milan derby, something that hadn't happened since February 2006.

“Our squad is very strong and we have character, so we will emerge from this difficult time with our heads held high,” assured captain Zanetti on Inter Channel.

The 2-1 at Chievo represented their second consecutive defeat after the Milan derby, something that hadn't happened since February 2006.

“Our squad is very strong and we have character, so we will emerge from this difficult time with our heads held high,” assured captain Zanetti on Inter Channel.

“Unfortunately the injuries mean we never get to play the same line-up twice, but we are not looking for alibis.

“We certainly weren't lacking hunger in Verona and Sergio Pellissier scored the opener against the run of play.

“Sadly Eto'o's goal came too late to make a difference, but we deserved better from this match.”

Eto'o made headlines for more than his goal at the Bentegodi, as he was caught on camera head-butting Bostjan Cesar in the chest.

As that was not seen by the referee, it's likely the Cameroon international will receive a lengthy ban, probably two to three matches.

“I promise we will rise again,” said Eto'o, who refused to comment on that incident.

“Now we have to win an important Champions League game on Wednesday against Twente. If we get that result, then we'll be sure of passage to the next round, so we can relax a bit.

“Rafa Benitez? In Italy everything changes in the space of a week. You can go from being treated like phenomenons to people looking down on you.”
