Genoa are going through a poor period of form and beset by transfer gossip, but Davide Ballardini warns “this Udinese match counts for a lot.”

The Rossoblu have been particularly ineffective in front of goal, failing to net in their last three Serie A outings.

The fact striker Giuseppe Sculli is ready to join Lazio and Luca Toni has moved to Juventus may not help matters, but Sculli is expected to start this afternoon.

“Our intention is to put in a great performance and give our fans real joy, as they deserve it,” said the Coach.

“There will be time to consider the transfer market, but we are concentrated on this game against Udinese. We want to confirm our solidity in defence and do better in attack.

“Udinese are very dangerous going forward, especially when it comes to finding space. They are almost all internationals, which says a lot about their quality.

“This game counts for a lot and we have to ride out this difficult moment.”

While Andrea Ranocchia has also left for Inter and Domenico Criscito is in negotiations with Milan, there have also been new arrivals.

This week Genoa completed the signing of Wigan Athletic striker Mauro Boselli, although a muscular injury will delay his debut by two weeks.

“We have sent away some important players and brought in quality youngsters, but they are not yet ready to be used, aside from Juraj Kucka.”
