Davide Ballardini describes Genoa’s match with Benevento as a ‘very important assignment.’

Despite battling to a creditable goalless draw at Fiorentina, the Griffone fell back into the Serie A relegation zone last weekend and today face a home encounter with the League’s bottom club.

“The season is long, we are not even half-way through our journey yet,” Ballardini commented at a Press conference. “We need to pedal and run.

“Against Benevento, it is a very important assignment. There will be others in the future.

“In the three matches we have played at home since we arrived, there hasn’t been a second in which the fans haven’t supported the team.

“We need to play a good match for them.”

Ballardini was also asked about injury-plagued forward Giuseppe Rossi, who featured in the Coppa Italia defeat at Juventus in midweek.

“He came on well in Turin. He showed that he is on the right track.

“I don’t know how much more time he will need, but he is at a good point.”
