Roberto De Zerbi admits he’d ‘be taken for an idiot’ if he talked about Benevento’s chances of staying in Serie A.

But despite his side’s seemingly hopeless situation, the former Palermo Coach insisted nothing in football can be taken for granted.
“Up until now we have competed, I want that to continue,” De Zerbi said ahead of Benevento’s match at Genoa.

“Up until now we have competed, I want that to continue,” De Zerbi said ahead of Benevento’s match at Genoa.
“Up to now, I have seen a fragile team, with a limited amount of personality and character. You pay for that.
“The holes in this team are clear, but I can’t fault the players in terms of commitment.
“I will keep any thoughts about staying up to myself. If today I talk about staying up people would take me for an idiot, but in football nothing is certain.
“In January a lot of new players will come in, but they will need to earn a place in the line-up.”
De Zerbi replaced the sacked Marco Baroni as boss in October but with results not having turned around, the Coach was asked about his future at Benevento.
“My future is only at Genoa. I am very happy here.
“Unfortunately the results aren’t coming, I take the responsibility.”
