Totti will celebrate his 40th birthday on Tuesday and we have a special section celebrating the fact with new and archive materials. See our full TOTTI40 feature here.

Could there even be an extra year on his contract?

“He is our Peter Pan, he refuses to grow up in a football sense and we’re delighted. He has immense class and I hope he can continue to feel like a kid when he steps on to the field,” Baldissoni told Mediaset Premium.

“Francesco is part of Roma’s history, the Roma family and he IS Roma, so he will always be a part of the club. It’s up to him. His conditions a few months ago prompted us to renew his contract, so we’ll see how he is later on, but this is really not the time to talk about it.

“In any case, he already has a contract with another six years on it in any role he wants. It depends on him and how he’s doing. I don’t think it’s in his mind right now either.”

Roma are currently in third place with Inter and Chievo, but need a victory to keep up with Juventus and Napoli.

“Every game in the end is a decisive moment, as it depends on the previous result, the next result and what happens elsewhere. It is a very intense period of the season where we play every three days, so we cannot think long-term right now. We have to focus on taking it one game at a time.

“Ultimately whether we get the three points in Week 1, 25 or 38, it all adds up in the end.”

This week there were reports in Bloomberg that Roma were looking to sell 40 per cent of the club shares, but Baldissoni was irritated at the situation.

“Roma are a club on the stock exchange, so we have to be very precise and that is why we released a statement insisting we are not seeking investors from China or anywhere else.

“What the President told Bloomberg was that we were aiming to raise capital and strategic partners for the stadium, but that is not the same as seeking investors to buy shares in the club.”
