Roma director Mauro Baldissoni outlines the club’s ambition in Europe, and describes the double-header with Bayern Munich as crucial to progression.

Roma face Bayern Munich in the Champions League tonight, and Baldissoni has spoken about the club’s European ambitions.

“Every target hit is always a starting point,” Baldissoni has told Roma’s official match programme.

“Every goal we achieve is the foundation to reach the next goal. It’s like in a video game – you complete a level, then you go to the next level and you meet other opponents, other obstacles.

“We’re working to become more and more competitive.

“If by playing in the Champions League we’ve arrived among the best, then we have to work to become the best of the best.”

Baldissoni then called on the Roma faithful to inspire the team against the German champions, with the game at the Olimpico a sell-out.

“We can’t wait to see the stadium packed-out. It means that the fans understand the importance of the game.

“I’m looking forward to the team taking to the field in a packed stadium filled by our fans. They are the best fans in the world.

“We take to the field thinking about playing on equal terms [with Bayern Munich], and that’s a measure of how far we’ve come.

“When the Champions League anthem starts, I’ll have chills, but of excitement rather than fear.

“Roma cannot and must not fear anything.”

Baldissoni also evaluated the Lupi’s chances of progression, placing importance on the games with Pep Guardiola’s side.

“The double-header with the Germans will be crucial. Our aim is to pick up points in both these games.

“If we get some points it will give us a great opportunity to make it out of the group.

“We also have to consider that the last match will be played at the Olimpico, against Manchester City.”
