Roma director general Mauro Baldissoni has defended Rudi Garcia against Antonio Conte’s assessment that he lacked ‘sporting culture’.

Conte continued his criticism of the Giallorosso Coach on Monday evening, suggesting that the Frenchman’s call for clubs to up their game against the Bianconeri in the closing rounds of the season was ‘a step backwards by feeding into the culture of suspicion’.

For Garcia’s director general, the comment is unjustified.

“Conte says that he has not seen sporting culture? Maybe he has not seen it or maybe he does not know how to recognise it because he is used to other principles of culture in his career,” Baldissoni has responded on Sky Sport 24.

“We are proud of the sporting culture put on the field every day and in what Rudi says and tries to teach.

“There was a call for sporting competitiveness in general, it certainly wasn’t challenged by Garcia.

“We are amazed that Juventus and their Coach have felt the need to respond.

“We are proud to have been up until now a competitive rival of Juventus, who are proving to be the best team in Italy.

“Do we deserve the Scudetto? The field always determines that. If they are first then it can be said that they have deserved it, but they have not yet won it.

“We want to be competitive in years to come. The skirmishes are just colour.”
