Interim CT Gigi Di Biagio was promoted from the Under-21 squad for friendlies against Argentina and England while the Federation seeks a permanent replacement for Gian Piero Ventura.

Di Biagio has largely accepted this task of renovating the Nazionale, bringing in fresh blood.

Some of the choices were forced upon him, as Giorgio Chiellini is out injured, so 23-year-old Daniele Rugani steps in.

If he had been available, then it’s safe to say Milan centre-back Alessio Romagnoli (also 23) would’ve been picked.

Of the starting XI, only Gigi Buffon (40), Leonardo Bonucci (30) and Marco Parolo (33) are 30 and above.

It’s the senior Italy debut for 20-year-old Fiorentina winger Federico Chiesa.

Age of the Italy line-up: Buffon (40); Florenzi (27), Bonucci (30), Rugani (23), De Sciglio (25); Parolo (33), Verratti (25), Jorginho (26); Chiesa (20), Immobile (28), Insigne (26)
