Inter director Piero Ausilio shrugged off Diego Simeone speculation and compared Gabriel Barbosa to Milan winger Suso.

Atletico Madrid boss Simeone confessed he’d love to return to Inter one day as a Coach, sparking speculation despite Stefano Pioli only just signing a contract to June 2018.

“Simeone’s words were misinterpreted and given too much weight. We have Pioli and are working with him, taking it one game at a time,” Ausilio told Mediaset Premium.

“This is a fairly new squad that is coming together and we know that it’s important to bring more Italians into the side. We have already started that process, but the club changed ownership three times in three years, so there’s bound to be a period for this to settle.

“Pioli is our present and our future, so we are working with him to plan the January and summer transfer strategy. We think we already have a good team.”

Gabigol is again on the bench and has made only one appearance for 16 minutes since his €29.5m move from Santos. Will he be loaned out or even sold in January?

“No decision has yet been made for him or anyone else. The only decision is that we have to reduce the size of the squad, but specific names have not yet been evaluated.

“Gabigol is learning, he wants to improve, I know that he is training well every week and that is what counts as far as I am concerned. He could have his space at Inter tomorrow or in a few months.

“Just think about Suso at Milan, who was considered hopeless until recently and has now become one of the best talents in Serie A. Gabriel has talent and wants to learn, so he needs patience to get there.”

Suso did struggle during his early months at Milan, but found his form during a loan spell at Genoa.
